January 28, 1940 ~ December 31, 2023 (age 83) 83 Years Old

Maureen McKenna, 83 (nee Higgins) of Kearny NJ passed over peacefully in her sleep overnight in her own home on December 31st.
Paul has his dance partner once again.
Maureen was born on January 28th, 1940 in Jersey City, New Jersey to John and Mary Higgins￼ (née McDonough).
After completing her bachelor’s degree
at St. Louis University in Missouri she went on to attaining her master’s degree at Felician college in NJ and even continued her education beyond that throughout her career. Maureen spent a life long career as a RN finding her true calling in school nursing spending many years as the Head Nurse at Kearny High School where she truly loved working with the students and staff.
She married the love of her life Paul McKenna June 20, 1970 after meeting at a dance class.
Maureen loved taking care of & spending time with her family, especially her six precious grandchildren; and sharing with them and everyone her love of music, reading, singing, gardening, storytelling, board games (especially scrabble), murder mysteries. She was also a trained graphologist. Maureen was a parishioner of her beloved St. Stephen’s for over 50 years.
Maureen is predeceased by her parents￼, John and Mary and her sister Patricia “Tish” Higgins.
Maureen is survived by her three children: Cristin and her husband Douglas and their two children, Christianna and Teresa; John Paul; Brian and his wife Melissa and their four children, Lainey, Jack, Lorelei and Evie Joy.
She leaves behind her beloved nephews Jack and Matthew, the McDonough and Gilvey families, Eileen O’Boyle family, cousins, grandchildren, nieces and nephews, god children and friends whom she loved and adored.
Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend the visitation on Friday, January 5th from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Alvarez Memorial Home, formerly Condon Funeral Home - 684 Kearny Ave Kearny NJ 07032
Final viewing will be the following day, Saturday January 6 at 9:00 a.m. in the funeral home followed by a 10:00 a.m. Mass of Christian burial across the street at St. Stephen’s Church in Kearny NJ. Interment will be at a future date.
